'I'm sure' Lewis Hamilton offered Damon Hill's Max Verstappen hope despite Dutch GP pain

Hamilton claimed the Silver Arrows could have won the race had it not been for the drama at the end. "I think we did [do enough to win] yes, but given the circumstances we were just challenged with a lot of things with the VSCs and the Safety Cars," Hamilton said. "The strategy and the car had been so good until then.

"The pit stops were fantastic, the best we've had all year, that was a relief. I thought the guys were really there today. I was really hoping we were going to do a one-two together as a team.

"Especially after a not great year, a year of ups and downs, we haven't had a win since Brazil. So we're fighting for that within our reach, but of course the safety car n didn't really help and I was just on the verge of breaking emotionally.”
