The Katsina State branch of the New Nigeria Peoples Party has called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retired) to resign immediately due to his failure to secure the country.

NNPP State Chairman Sani Litti, who made the appeal at a press conference in Katsina on Monday, claimed that as many as 50,000 Nigerians lost their lives to banditry in 2015 to date.

The president therefore instructed the members of the National Assembly to begin the impeachment of the president if he refused to resign.

He also called for the declaration of states of emergency in Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Niger and Sokoto states due to security concerns.

He said, “We reiterate the call on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately resign from office for his failure to secure Nigeria. Problems of insecurity keep increasing mainly due to poor governance, including an increase in poverty, bad economic policies, a decline in the standard of living of the population, an upsurge in ethnic militias, an increase in activities corruption, crime and criminal activity, an increase in drug use and several factors.

"In the event that the President refuses to step down, we urge the National Assembly to apply constitutional means to save the lives and property of Nigerians.

“The Nigerian government should urgently declare a state of security emergency in the following states: Katsina; Kaduna; Zamfara; Niger and Sokoto States.

Litti advised the federal government to also hire mercenaries for six months to fight banditry, insurgents and tribal militias, adding that the government should subsequently recruit a million young Nigerians who should be trained as forces to secure the country after the exit of the mercenaries.

“In this regard, we call on the federal government to immediately hire mercenaries for six months from any time to combat rising banditry, insurgency and tribal militias. Likewise, the government should urgently recruit one million young Nigerians to be trained as special forces to protect and secure the country when the mercenaries leave in six months,” he added.
