Jordan says Newcastle 'will take two or three years to deliver their potential', compares with Man City

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes it will take Newcastle United another two or three years before they 'realize their potential'.

The Saudi takeover of Newcastle was completed last year. They spent around £90million on new players in the January transfer window to ease their relegation fears.

Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood were among their vocals.

Eddie Howe's side enjoyed a brilliant end to the 2021/22 campaign. They finished eleventh in the Premier League with 49 points.

The Magpies have also been busy this summer. They have spent just under £60million in total to bring in Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Matt Targett on permanent deals.

It is also reported that they are ready to make a club-record offer for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak.

Jordan is confident Newcastle have a lot to do to get into the Premier League top six:

“I think Newcastle will take two or three years to start realizing their potential and what that potential will look like is hard to say,” Jordan told talkSPORT (via Chronicle Live < /em>).

"If there's an argument - they're going to have to do some, they really are going to have to do some to meet the standards - when Man City started the engines in 2008, look at the difference in the competition that now rivals Man City and how Man City went.

"There is a big difference between Man City in 2008 and buying Robinho and Manchester City in 2022.

"Look at Liverpool's development, Tottenham I think are going to be a threat and Chelsea I think will always be a threat. Man United are going to wake up from their slumber and eventually kick in.

“Newcastle adds real intrigue to the conversation due to all the bad press that has come with them before about ownership of Mike Ashley and the expectations of that particular fan base and the opportunity with that model of ownership .

"But, I still think they have really, really tough yards before they approach the top six."
