Buhari reappoints Adeyeye as DG NAFDAC

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reappointment of Professor Moji Adeyeye as Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

A statement released by the agency on Friday said the president's approval of Ms. Adeyeye's second five-year term took effect on December 1.

Ms. Adeyeye, appointed in 2017, completed her first renewable term on November 2.

Following the expiration of her first term, Monica Eimunjeze, NAFDAC's Director of Registration and Regulatory Affairs, was immediately appointed as the agency's Acting Managing Director.

Reappointment

According to the statement signed by NAFDAC Director of Public Affairs, Abubakar Jimoh, approval for his reappointment was conveyed by Federation Government Secretary, Boss Mustapha.

Mr. Jimoh said the DG reappointment follows his record of monumental achievements and successes over the past five years, in particular achieving World Health Organization (WHO) Maturity Level 3. /p>

“Adeyeye, who officially took office today (Friday) was received by some staff at the head office in Abuja,” he said.

"She will reveal her plans for the second term after the holidays."

About the boss of NAFDAC

According to NAFDAC, Ms. Adeyeye obtained her B.Sc in Pharmacy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1976, and went on to the University of Georgia where she earned an M.S and Ph.D. in pharmacy in 1985 and 1988.

She was Professor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Evaluation at Roosevelt University School of Pharmacy in Schaumburg, Illinois, USA, and founding Chair of Biopharmaceutical Sciences at the same university.

She was also a professor of pharmacy and manufacturing for 21 years at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, USA.

She has five patents, over 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters and books, and over 140 scientific presentations.
