Kaser Focus: Queen and Country

Rest in peace, Queen Elizabeth II of England. 96 years is quite a race. Just to give some context, the Magnavox Odyssey was released when it was 46 years old. She had already been queen for 20 years. The entire industry that supports both my professional and personal life was still in its tween years when Queen Elizabeth became a grandmother. This timeline just. . . breathtaking.

Actually, I'm out of the office today, but I thought the stories above were worth coming for a Kaser Focus. Since I'm here, I'll tell you everything I did on my day off. I played a little more Saints Row, and honestly, I don't like it. The main supporting cast, if not the Boss himself, are gemards. I failed to warm up to them because I felt like all they did from the start was complain. And the satirical potential of the modern millennial/zoomer experience is lost because the writing sounds inauthentic. It sounds - and it may not sound harsh, but that's the death knell for a Saints Row game - a bit basic.

In terms of news, PlayStation and Xbox seem to be going after the Call of Duty audience. After Phil Spencer said last week that Microsoft had done everything possible to keep the series available for PlayStation gamers, now Jim Ryan is fighting back. He says Microsoft's actual offer was "inadequate on many levels" and casts some shade with, "I feel the need to set the record straight because Phil Spencer introduced it to the public forum." I'm curious to see how this resolves, if only to hear a bit more back and forth between these two.

For those of you who don't know, I'm a big (even embittered) Assassin's Creed fan, so I'll be there for the Ubisoft show tomorrow. I'll be curious to see how well they show Assassin's Creed Mirage, the next title in the series. I'll probably delve into Splatoon 3 a bit, and maybe even that new Disney Dreamlight Valley game, if there's time.
