KEDCO appeals to local police to fight against vandalism

Management of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has once again urged members of the public to step up surveillance in their communities to combat the increase in cases of vandalism of transformers in the areas.

This is according to a statement signed by Ibrahim Sani Shawai, Director of Corporate Communications at KEDCO, a copy made available to reporters at KANO.

He said the increased threat has caused severe economic losses to KEDCO while hampering efforts to ensure consistent, quality electricity supply to customers.

Shawai said that "those who vandalize our equipment take advantage of the rainy season to sneak into our transformers to vandalize cables, steal oil and other valuables.

However, it revealed that illegal connections and vandalism are contributing factors to low power in residential areas.

“The danger of such acts exposes the general public and even the perpetrators to disaster,” the management added.

Management has therefore called on the general public to help KEDCO by reporting attempts to vandalize or steal KEDCO equipment to the nearest KEDCO offices or security outposts.
