Kidnappers abduct students traveling for Christmas in Ondo

Four students were reportedly kidnapped in Ago Jinadu, along the Akinnu-Ajowa road in Akoko area of ​​Ondo State.

Students from Kogi State Polytechnic were heading home for Christmas vacation.

The area has recently assumed notoriety for criminal activity, particularly kidnappings.

The development was found to have caused grief in the Ajowa community as the parents of the victims appealed for help to save their children.

Confirming the incident, Ikare Zone Commander of the Police, Muri Agboola, said police were combing the forests along the Akunnu-Ajowa Akoko road looking for the kidnapped students.

He assured that no effort would be spared to rescue the victims.

The incident occurred barely a month after the abduction of the monarch of Ajowa-Akoko, Clement Olukotun.

He was released after about 10 million naira were paid to the kidnappers.

Meanwhile, police said they arrested a mechanic in connection with the kidnapping of one Augustine Okoye, who died in the kidnappers' den last week in Ikare Akoko.

Mr. Okoye was reportedly tortured to death and his body dumped after the kidnappers collected a ransom.

The deceased's wife, Bolaji Okoye, had told police that her husband's mechanic, simply called Segun, had been spotted in the bush while they were being held hostage.

The police zone commander said Mr. Segun had been transferred to police headquarters in Akure for further questioning.
