Kremlin warns of consequences if EU bans Russian tourists

The Kremlin has warned the EU that there will be consequences if there is a sweeping ban on Russian citizens entering the bloc.

Russia would not leave such a decision unanswered and would protect the interests of its citizens, spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday in Moscow.

“This is a very serious decision that could be directed against our citizens,” he said.

EU states, however, took different positions, Peskov noted, describing what he called “anti-Russian impulses” in some capitals that demonstrated “an absolute lack of reason.”

For days there have been discussions about whether to stop Russians from traveling to the EU for vacations as people are dying in Ukraine because of Moscow's actions.

Until now, there was no coordinated European policy.

Germany and France were against a broad entry ban.

Meanwhile, countries like the Czech Republic have stopped issuing new visas to Russian citizens for some time now.
