The legislator requests the intervention of the FG for 200 households displaced by the floods in Adamawa

Zakaria Nyampa, (PDP-Adamawa) called on the federal government to provide relief materials to more than 200 households recently displaced by floods in Adamawa.

Mr. Nyampa, representing Michika/Madagali Federal Constituency, said this when speaking to reporters in Abuja on Saturday.

He expressed concern at the further distress experienced by hundreds of families, including women and children who had suffered losses during the devastation caused by insurgents in the areas.

According to him, as many as 200 homes collapsed due to flooding in the state and few lost their lives in the incident.

He added that some of those affected had moved to schools while others moved to nearby towns to squat with relatives and friends.

"But at the moment we have a lot of displaced families, which is not good, especially during the rainy season when there are a lot of mosquitoes in the areas.

“And if you look at the cold weather, especially around Shuak, Kirchinga and Kamale areas, there are flat lands where flooding has taken over,” he said.

The lawmaker said an official letter has been sent to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to provide assistance if needed.

"I contacted the National Emergency Management Agency, the Ecological Office, the Federal Department of Works and Housing and the Northeast Development Commission.

“Unfortunately my people are now so displaced that they have taken over the primary schools in the villages,” he said.

Mr. Nyampa said it was regrettable that lives were lost in the floods. (NAN)
