Lewis Hamilton splits from longtime sidekick Angela Cullen and writes heartfelt message

Lewis Hamilton has parted ways with longtime coach Angela Cullen. The Mercedes star sent a heartfelt message to his colleague on social media ahead of practice for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

The pair have worked together for seven years and have been alongside Hamilton on race weekends for much of their championship success at Mercedes.

Hamilton said she was quitting her role to "go chase her dreams," but no further details were revealed. Hamilton posted on Instagram: "For the past seven years, @cullen_angela has been by my side, pushing me to be the best version of myself.

"I'm a stronger athlete and a better person because of her. So today, I hope you'll join me in wishing her the best as she takes the next steps to pursue her dreams. Thank you for everything Ang, can't wait to see what the future holds for you."

Hamilton has previously described her relationship with Cullen as "incredibly close" with the couple "living pretty much together".

Hamilton and Cullen train regularly outside of F1 weekends with the 48-year-old scouted by the seven-time champion's team during a series of his off-track activities. Cullen joined Hamilton in 2016 and has regularly praised her hard work as a coach and mother of two.

He said meeting Cullen was "one of the greatest things that's ever happened" in his life and revealed his positivity as one of his best assets. The British F1 icon asked Cullen to join him on the road after struggling with his former physio. The 38-year-old admitted he was suffering from "different issues" and pain which prompted the change in personnel.

In 2020, he said: "When you get into Formula 1, there's this whole idea of ​​physios, but a lot of them, or some of them, are just trainers.
