N-CARES empowers farmers in Oyo LGAs, OYSADA partners on youth empowerment

As many as one hundred youths who have been trained by the Oyo State Government on agribusiness value chain have benefited from the agribusiness intervention program, a federal government program titled Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (N-Cares) In collaboration with the Oyo National Development Agency (OYSADA) with support from the World Bank.

The goal of the program is to boost food production in the state, as well as support farmers who have been impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.

N-CARES also in its plan to improve cassava production in the state, especially in this planting season, has started the distribution of needed materials in 11 local government areas in the state.

Selected beneficiaries in the Oyo West local government area of ​​the state have returned home with cassava stalks, fertilizers and other agrochemicals that will facilitate their farming activities at Fashola Farm, Oyo, under the supervision of OYSADA experts.

Addressing the beneficiaries shortly after the distributions of the agro-industry intervention agricultural materials, the project coordinator, Resort Zone 2, Mr. Bamgbola Kolawole maintained that the post-COVID intervention plan -19 for Youth aimed to increase food security and support the food supply chain for poor households.

He noted that the beneficiaries of the intervention program are among the 3,300 youths who have undergone agribusiness training in Nasarawa state on the state government bill. Oyo with the primary aim of engaging youth in the agribusiness value chain and how to do it. agriculture with modern techniques and the latest initiatives that will improve agricultural productivity.

Bamgbola maintained that the initiative which would span approximately 2 years would empower over 6,000 young people in the state.

Bamgbola said, "The youths who have been divided into ten groups are expected to cultivate 50 hectares of land on the Fashola farm after receiving the materials to complete several efforts of interventions by the administration led by Governor Seyi Makinde in the agricultural sector.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to reporters praised the continued support of the state government as it empowered them to step in to ensure their self-reliance.

The Director of Agriculture and Office Officer of Oyo West Local Government Area, who represented the Council Chairman, Mr. Salam Akeem, pledged to ensure that the objectives of the intervention are achieved.
