Nigerian army redeploys top generals
The Nigerian military has announced the redeployment of senior generals.
The Chief of Staff of the Army (COAS), Lieutenant-General. Faruk Yahaya, has approved the redeployment of senior officers with the aim of ensuring the administrative and operational efficiency of the Nigerian Army (NA).
The director of public relations for the army, brigadier general. Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement on Saturday, said the new assignments and appointments were aimed at maintaining recent operational successes recorded in tackling emerging security challenges in the country.
Mr. Nwachukwu said the officers involved are major generals and brigadier generals among several other senior officers from army formations and units.
He added that those affected by the redeployment include some senior army headquarters staff officers, corps commanders, commanders of army training institutions, commanders of brigade, commanders and many more.
In the new appointment, Mr. Nwachukwu said the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali, relocates to the Northeast as the Theater Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) of Joint Task Force Northeast.
He said the chief of training (army), Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Ibrahim had been appointed GOC 3 Division as well as the Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), while Maj. Gen. AS Chinade would move from the 2 seat division to the 82 seat division as GOC.
He said Major General. GM Mutkut had been appointed as GOC 8 Division and Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) Commander of Policy and Planning Department at Army Headquarters.
"These newly appointed corps commanders are former theater commander, OPHK, Maj. Gen. Christopher Musa, as the new infantry corps commander, while Maj. Gen. MS Ahmed is transferred to Nigerian Army Armored Corps Headquarters as Corps Commander.
"Maj.-Gen. BR Sinjen moves from the Nigerian Army Artillery School to the Nigerian Army Artillery Corps Headquarters as the new Corps Commander, and Major-General PE Eromosele moves from National Defense College to Nigerian Army Engineers Headquarters as Commanding Officer.
“Also, Maj. Gen. AA Ayannuga is transferred to the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command as Commander, while Maj. Gen. GS Abdullahi moves from the Defense Space Administration to Nigerian Army Signals Headquarters.
“Among the new Senior Defense and Army Staff Officers is Maj. Gen. Solomon Udounwa who is being redeployed from the Department of Special Services and Programs at United Nations Headquarters. Army to Defense Headquarters as Chief of Defense Training and Operations.
“Maj.-Gen. SG Mohammed was appointed Chief of Training, Maj. Gen. UT Musa from 82 Division Headquarters in the Department of Army Administration as Director of Training personnel management, while Maj. Gen. Y Yahaya of the 31st Artillery Brigade Headquarters moves to the Department of Army Administration as Director of Manpower (Army) among several others,” he said.
Mr. Nwachukwu said Brigadier General. TI Gusau was named Director of Defense Information while Brigadier General. AM Umar has been appointed as the new commander of the Guards Brigade.
According to him, other redeployed brigade commanders include the brigadier-general. S Aliyu from 6th Division Headquarters to 63rd Brigade Headquarters, while Brig. HD Bobbo moves from National Defense College to 31st Brigade Headquarters.
