It has been observed that if the Federal Government goes ahead with its plan to ban commercial motorcycle operations in the country, as many as 98 million Nigerians will suffer the negative consequences.

The sighting was made by a youth lobby group known as the North-East Youth Transformation Forum who condemned the federal government's plan to ban the operation of commercial motorcycles commonly referred to as " Okada" or Achaba all over the country.

The North East Youth Transformation Forum, in a press release issued to reporters in Gombe over the weekend by its chairman, Comrade Abdulrazak Albani, criticized the decision saying it would submit about 98 million Nigerians in hardship.

According to him, out of the country's 200 million people, about 98 million, or almost half of the population, suffer from abject poverty and do not have their own vehicle, stressing that the ban on 'Okada will make them even more vulnerable. and miserable.

He felt that in addition to making transportation difficult for poor citizens, the decision will render commercial motorcyclists jobless and simultaneously increase the crime rate in society.
