Oxlade, Peter Obi, Asake, Black Sherif are the most wanted people in Nigeria in 2022 — Google

Google announced its 2022 search results on Wednesday, revealing the most searched terms, people, actors, musicians, topics, questions and more that have captured people's interest the most. Nigerians throughout this year.

Google's Year in Search is an annual analysis that reveals top trending lists and shines a light on what the world is looking to see, learn, and do.

In Nigeria, this year's search results show an increased interest in politics, entertainment, sports, lifestyle and notable personalities.

The 2022 Year in Search lists provide insight into what has piqued the curiosity of Nigerians in a year that has seen major sporting events, high-profile deaths and the looming elections in Nigeria in February 2023.

The African Cup of Nations called AFCON and Casemiro, the Brazilian footballer, topped the categories of the most popular searches and the best athletes and sportsmen, respectively.

Nigeria were knocked out of the AFCON 2022 competition by Tunisia in a 1-0 defeat as Senegal beat Egypt to win their maiden Africa Cup of Nations title earlier this year. The eight-month strike by ASUU, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, placed the union as the second most popular search among Nigerians during the reporting period.

Oxlade, the Nigerian singer-songwriter, topped the top two categories of trending personalities and musicians Nigerians are looking for this year. Asake, an Afrobeat singer signed to YBNL Nation, came second in the list of top trending musicians.

Anikulapo, a Nigerian epic fantasy film starring Kunle Remi and produced by Kunle Afolayan, topped the trending movies and series category.

Who is?

Questions such as "Who is Peter Obi's running mate?", "Who is the APC running mate?", "Who is the running mate of Atiku?", "Who is leading the elections in Osun State?", "Who is Tinubu's candidate?" running mate?" and "Who is Peter Obi?" reveal Nigerians' heightened interest in politics and the following year's elections.

Entertainment-related search terms such as 'Finesse lyrics', 'Buga' and Kizz Daniel's song featuring Tekno and 'Will Smith' all topped their categories, revealing Nigerians' interest in lyrics , melodies and celebrities.

And in a year of several high-profile deaths, Queen Elizabeth's death was the most wanted loss, followed by gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, who died in April, and actress Ada Ameh, died in August.

Other most searched questions such as "How to bind the NIN?", "How to buy stocks?", "How to register for PVC online?", "What is lupus? " and "What is NATO?" showed how Nigerians used Google search to find out more about their interests in 2022.
