The African Cup of Nations called AFCON and Casemiro, the Brazilian footballer, topped the categories of the most popular searches and the best athletes and sportsmen, respectively.

Nigeria were knocked out of the AFCON 2022 competition by Tunisia in a 1-0 defeat as Senegal beat Egypt to win their maiden Africa Cup of Nations title earlier this year. The eight-month strike by ASUU, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, placed the union as the second most popular search among Nigerians during the reporting period.

Oxlade, the Nigerian singer-songwriter, topped the top two categories of trending personalities and musicians Nigerians are looking for this year. Asake, an Afrobeat singer signed to YBNL Nation, came second in the list of top trending musicians.

Anikulapo, a Nigerian epic fantasy film starring Kunle Remi and produced by Kunle Afolayan, topped the trending movies and series category.

And in a year of several high-profile deaths, Queen Elizabeth's death was the most wanted loss, followed by gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, who died in April, and actress Ada Ameh, died in August.

Other most searched questions such as "How to bind the NIN?", "How to buy stocks?", "How to register for PVC online?", "What is lupus? " and "What is NATO?" showed how Nigerians used Google search to find out more about their interests in 2022.
