Pantami launches flagship broadband projects

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, will chair on Thursday, November 24, 2022 in Abuja, the launch of landmark broadband initiatives to be implemented by the Nigerian communications (NCC) to accelerate broadband penetration in Nigeria and advance digital economy projections for the country.

The event will see the awarding of contracts for the provision of broadband infrastructure for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), as well as for higher and higher education institutions in the six geopolitical zones of the country.

Pantami is also responsible for presenting a book, Skills Rather Than Just Degrees, of which he is the author, with a preface written by Brad Smith, president of Microsoft Corporation.

The projects of the different geopolitical zones planned for the launch were recently approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), after presentation by the Minister. Projects are expected to be completed within six months of the award date.

Well-known technology companies have been selected through a transparent bidding process by the NCC for the implementation of the strategic projects.

The event is expected to attract multiple stakeholders, including academics, tech enthusiasts, potential start-ups, fintech organizations and other interested sectors, whose activities are billed to drive policy and strategy national digital economy (NDEPS) 2020-2030.
