PDP government candidate leads after snack in 17 LGAs, set to be declared winner in Enugu

People's Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Enugu State, Peter Mbah, is in the lead after tabulating the results of Saturday's gubernatorial election in all 17 zones of local state government.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that Labor Party (LP) candidate for the elections, Chijioke Edeoga, led by a narrow margin after election results were collected in eight of the 17 council areas in the state.

But the PDP candidate overtook him after the remaining nine areas of the state council were ranked.

The results for all 17 local government areas in the state were announced at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) State Collation Center in Enugu on Sunday.

Of the 17 local government areas, the PDP candidate won in nine while the LP candidate won in eight of them.

The nine communes where Mr. Mbah won are: Uzo-Uwani, Udi, Ezeagu, Aninri, Nkanu West, Enugu South, Awgu, Enugu East and Nkanu East, where he is from.

The LP candidate, for his part, won in the following communes: Igbo-Eze North, Oji River, Igbo-Etiti, Igbo-Eze South, Nsukka, Udenu, Enugu North and Isi-Uzo, from where he comes from. .

While the winner of the gubernatorial election has not been declared at the time of writing, results from all council areas tallied by PREMIUM TIMES showed that Mr. Mbah, the PDP candidate, obtained a total of 174,289 votes against defeating the LP candidate, who scored 157,543 to come second.

The margin difference between the PDP and LP candidates is 16,746 votes.

All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate Frank Nweke Jr garnered 18,061 votes to fall far behind, while All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for election Uche Nnaji , trailed with a total of 14,808 votes. .

The collation officers from all areas of the state council submitted the results to the Returning Officer for the Election and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Umudike, Maduebibisi Iwe.

However, Mr. Iwe, a professor and returning officer, withdrew results from three local government areas following various allegations of non-use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine and other irregularities.

The three local government areas where results have been withdrawn for review are Nkanu East, Nsukka and Enugu East.

There was a rowdy session during the collation when LP party agent Eugene Edeoga called for the Nkanu East collation of results to be suspended, alleging that the BVAS machine was bypassed during the election in the board area.
