Penn Badgley Surprises "You" Superfan Drew Barrymore With A Pretty Immersive Experience

Drew Barrymore unleashed her inner scream queen on a recent taping of her talk show. In honor of his 48th birthday on February 22, Barrymore co-host Ross Mathews decided to give the "You" superfan the full Joe Goldberg experience, complete with a life-size torture chamber and the appearance by Penn Badgley himself.

Barrymore has starred in countless thrillers and embraces the spirit of Halloween, making the gift almost too much to handle. "This is the most thrilling blindfold experience I've ever had," Barrymore said as Mathews ushered her into a glass box. The setup was surprisingly similar to the one Joe (Badgley) uses to trick his victims into the Netflix series, which recently launched its fourth season.

Seconds later, Mathews asked Barrymore to remove the blindfold, sending him into a fit of screams as Badgley appeared and banged on the glass. Overwhelmed, Barrymore fell to her knees as Badgley looked inside the compound. "It's not supposed to be like this!" said Badley. As another early birthday present, Badgley presented Barrymore with a bottle of stain remover adorned with a silver bow. "Here's a birthday present for you. I know you like to remove stains," the "You" star told her as she pushed the bottle through a double-sided drawer set into the glass. /p>

As Barrymore cradled the bottle of cleanser in awe, Badgley took a moment to remind him that his "You" character - Joe Goldberg, aka Jonathan Moore - is, in fact, a serial killer. "You're not supposed to want that," he said, referring to the fact that many fans of the show romanticize Joe despite his horrific crimes.

While Badgley rarely misses an opportunity to point out his character's toxicity in interviews, Barrymore couldn't help but express his excitement for the immersive birthday surprise. "You know me so well," she said as the audience burst into laughter.
