Police allay fears over presence of gunmen at Osun Electoral Court

Osun State Police have allayed fears over the sighting of armed men at the entrance to the Osogbo State High Court during a session of the Governorate Electoral Petitions Tribunal .

Reports emerged on Wednesday that security guards intercepted a car carrying people armed with guns to the High Court premises.

The car and its occupants were reportedly taken to police headquarters in Osogbo for investigation.

But Yemisi Opalola, the police spokesperson, told PREMIUM TIMES that the gunmen are local hunters working with the police.

"They are local security guards and hunters. They haven't attacked anyone. They are working with the police on security," she said.

The police spokesman explained that the hunters had been ordered to go to the court premises.

“They were heading to another place before they were ordered to go to this place,” she said.

Ms. Opalola urged residents of the state to go about their normal business without fear, stressing, "There is no cause for alarm."
