Two of three gangs of armed robbers who specialize in terrorizing the people of Mbano Street and Aladimma area, respectfully in Owerri North Local Government Area in Imo State , were arrested by a police team from Imo State Police Command, Owerri, IMO State.

Their arrest follows a distress call received from a robbery victim who accidentally saw one of the armed robbers, who was among three armed robbers who stole his ash-colored Lexus 330 SUV with the number registration RLU 08 AH at gunpoint.

In a statement released Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of Imo State Police Command in Owerri, CSP Michael Abattam said the victim said that on July 18, 2022 at the Mbano Street, Aladinma Owerri, Imo State, the suspects had forced him to the stand, took him to a secluded place, stole all his valuables and used his mobile phone and transferred the sum of one hundred thousand naira (N100,000.00) from his bank account to one of their accounts.

The police spokesperson said that when alerted, the team immediately mobilized and stormed the scene and arrested a 23-year-old Goodness Chinaza, a resident of Aladinma Owerri, in Imo State.

According to Abattam, during questioning, the suspect confessed to being a member of a gang of thieves and admitted to robbing the victim

The PPRO said the suspect then led police officers to arrest 24-year-old Emeka Orji, aka "COCO", from the same address, while Julius Chigozie escaped.

During further interrogation according to CSP Abattam, they both revealed where they had concealed the stolen vehicle at Hotel Rapour, Amakohia Owerri, lmo State.

He said the vehicle was picked up at the station.

He said the investigation revealed that the three suspects resided in a neighborhood of Aladinma Owerri, where they broke into the apartment of a deceased police officer in the same neighborhood, stole his uniforms, his body armor and other valuables.

Afterwards, they started using the same thing to rob innocent citizens.

The PPRO said their modus operandi is to don the stolen uniform, block the road, control vehicles as if they were real police.

And once they see a flashy car according to the PPRO, they stop the driver, asking for vehicle details.

He said that the suspects, in an attempt to give them the details, will drag the person outside, put them in the cabin of the car and drive to a safe place where they will rob the innocent victim.

The police spokesperson said that sometimes the suspects will end up kidnapping the victim for ransom until the odds turn against them and they are caught.

He said that while searching the suspects' house, they recovered the following items: a locally made short double-barreled pistol, a knife and police uniforms/bulletproof vests.

Police Commissioner, CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, while commending officers for their quick response and bravery, warned hoteliers to beware of people using their facilities and cars parked on their premises.

>

He thanked the brave people of Imo State for their cooperation and support and urged them to use the Command's emergency control numbers in case of distress; 08034773600 or 08098880197 in times of distress.
