PSC appoints 2 DIGs, promotes FPRO Adejobi, others

The Police Services Commission (PSC) on Thursday promoted Public Officer of the Force (FPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi' to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (ACP) with the appointment of two Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIG).

In addition, 14,052 inspectors were promoted to Assistant Superintendents of Police (unconfirmed) and the confirmation of 9,016 Assistant Superintendents of Police unconfirmed.

This was in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja by the Commission's spokesperson, Mr. Ikechikwu Ani.

The statement said the decisions were taken during the connection's plenary session held at its headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

He explained that the Commission approved the appointment of AIG Matthew Akinyosola in charge of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) as Deputy Inspector General of Police to fill the position vacated by the Acting Inspector General of Police who had represented the South West Zone in the Police Management Team.

He said DIG Akinyosola's tenure ended on July 1, 2023 when he retired, which allowed the Commission to appoint AIG Sylvester Abiodun Alabi, AIG Zone 12, Bauchi, as DIG representing the South West from July 1, 2023.

According to her, the Commission approved the promotion of CSP Olumuyiwa Oladunmoye Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer to the next rank of ACP and the confirmation of 9,016 unconfirmed Deputy Superintendents of Police.

"The Plenary also approved the promotion of 14,052 Inspectors to Deputy Superintendents of Police (unconfirmed) while an Inspector Habila Bulus was promoted to ASP 11 for bravery and commitment to duty.

"Additionally, Inspector Mohammed Aminu, who came to prominence on social media where he was seen being assaulted in uniform by a certain Seun Kuti, was also promoted to ASP 1. The Commission noted that despite the unwarranted provocation, intimidation and serious assault, he demonstrated a high level of professionalism, restraint and chose to follow due process in seeking redress. CP. Olalaye Falaye, former Police Commissioner of Ebonyi State Command, was promoted to the next rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police after the Commission approved the adjustment of his position in the seniority list.

He added that a delegation from the Police Management Team led by DIG Mohammed Dan Mallam joined the leadership of the Police Service Commission at its headquarters in Jabi, Abuja on Wednesday to formally bid farewell to some members of the Commission at a convivial farewell session held in their honour.

According to her, the Chairman of the Commission, Dr Solomon Arase, who presided over the ceremony, said they deserved to be celebrated for standing strong and strong amid the evident disquiet "that has characterized the activities of the Commission thus far and has kept the Commission strong when it looked like it was about to disintegrate".

Dr. Arase noted that the outgoing Commissioners jointly lifted and positioned the Commission where "it stands today despite the challenges and characteristic conflict between the Commission and the Nigerian Police".

He added that the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Ifeoma Adaora Anyanwutaku had, in his remarks at the ceremony, said that their legacy for the Commission "is quite commendable and cannot be erased in the history of the Commission; you have left indelible marks in the Commission, never to be forgotten".

Dr. Anyanwutaku appealed to all outgoing members not to close their doors to the Commission as they would continue to reach out to consult and draw on their wealth of experience, wisdom and knowledge.
