Hon. Frank Chinasa, the Labor Party candidate for the Bende Federal Constituency election in Abia State, finally handed over his seat to the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

The LP candidate, while making this known to reporters in Abuja on Friday, said the move followed his compassion for the constituency.

The DAILY POST reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Kalu of the All Progressives Congress, APC the winner of the February 25 election after garnering 10,020 votes out of a total of 22,308.

Not satisfied with the outcome of the election, the LP candidate then approached the National Assembly Electoral Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, in a bid to overthrow the Kalu victory.

However, ruling on the matter, the court last week upheld the vice president's declaration as the winner of the February ballot.

While there have been hints that the Labor Party flag bearer may go to the appeals court to try to overturn the tribunal's decision, Chinasa told reporters on Friday that he had decided to end all legal proceedings, pledging allegiance to Kalu. .

According to him, the vice-president has the same objective of good representation of the people of Bende, stressing that Kalu remains his brother and friend.

He said, “I am here to inform the world that I no longer wish to take the case beyond the court. It just means I've decided to drop the case.

“Kalu and I have a history that spans decades and cannot be marred by the fleeting political activities of today. First, we are Bende's brothers. “We are also good friends and inherently share the same goal of good representation of our people.”
