Sacked President of Taraba PDP appeals court judgment

Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, beleaguered chairman of the Taraba State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he had appealed against the recent judgment of the State High Court.

DAILY POST recalls that Bawa was recently removed from office by the presiding judge of the State High Court, Justice Nuhu Adi, on the grounds that his appointment as the effective chairman of the party was “unconstitutional”.

Bawa on Sunday in Jalingo, the state capital, announced that he had appealed against the judgment of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria, Yola Judicial Division.

He made copies of his notice of appeal available to reporters, saying he was not satisfied with Judge Nuhu Adi's ruling on July 17, 2023.

Part of its notice of appeal reads: "That the plaintiff, who was the second defendant in the trial court, being dissatisfied with the judgment of the Taraba State High Court, Jalingo Judicial Division, hereby appeals to the Court of Appeal."

The leadership struggle between Bawa and Alhaji Inuwa Bakari had a negative impact on the party, leading to the closure of the party secretariat.

The warring duo have been ordered by the Taraba State Police Command to distance themselves from party premises until the raging crisis is resolved amicably.

Bakari and Bawa, at the time of this report, continued to claim the position of party president.

The imbroglio has continued to worsen despite the establishment of a committee by the state governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to resolve the disputes.
