Sit-at-home: Gunmen kill cop, Pawpaw's brother, injure commissioner

Parts of Owerri, Mbaitoli and surrounding areas of Imo State were attacked on Friday afternoon by armed men enforcing the sit-down order.

The gunmen struck at different locations and killed a policeman, Prince Iheme, older brother of Nollywood superstar Osita Iheme, better known as Pawpaw.

The gunmen also machete the state commissioner for solid minerals, Martin Eke.

The gunmen riding in the Trundra operational vehicles fired indiscriminately, forcing people to rush to safety.

As businesses closed abruptly, the roads were deserted as motorists abandoned their vehicles and fled.

In Orji, a community that shares the border with the state capital, gunmen wearing black clothes in three vehicles attacked residents and bystanders, including police officers.

Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the gunmen met police at the 7Up junction in Orji and shot dead a cop.

He said, "They've just killed a policeman now. They opened fire on them and shouted, 'There's a sit-at-home. We've asked you to go home. Stay inside. interior.'"

Another eyewitness said, "I just escaped death now. They stopped in front of us and shot in the air and told us to go home. They didn't shoot us. maybe because I was in the middle of old women."

Our correspondent also learned that the fleeing gunmen fired several times at Nkwo Orji market before flying to Okigwe Road.

In Ubommiri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of ​​Imo State, the gunmen attacked the convoy of All Progressives Congress candidate for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency, Akarachi Amadi.< /p>

While Prince Iheme was killed instantly, State Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Martin Eke, was cut with a machete.

An eyewitness who did not want to be mentioned said: "This attack is politically motivated. We just finished at a campaign rally ground and were heading towards Ubommiri. Our convoy was attacked at Amawuihe in front of Ubommiri.

"Prince Iheme was traveling in the same vehicle as the Solid Minerals Commissioner. Prince Iheme who is Pawpaw's older brother was killed instantly. The commissioner who was sworn in two weeks ago was badly cut. He has just been rushed to hospital. They were driving in a Ford SUV. I pray that he succeeds."

Police spokesman for the command, Micheal Abattam, has yet to respond to an inquiry into the incidents.
