Taraba PRP suspends its president for corruption
The Taraba State branch of the People's Redemption Party (PRP) has suspended its chairman, Mr. Abdullahi Maikasuwa, for three months for corruption and anti-party activities.
State party leaders led by Mr. Samuel Emmanuel during briefing reporters at Jalingo revealed that the party leaders after deliberation and consideration, members unanimously appointed Engineer Idris Umar, the State Treasurer, as the Acting Chairman of the Taraba State PRP pending the decision of the National Working Committee on the suspension
According to party leaders, Maikasuwa has been involved in corruption and anti-party activities on numerous occasions where he harassed and extorted money from members at the local government level.
They alleged that Maikasuwa also violated the Party Constitution by operating the party as a sole business.
"We wish to announce here that the President of our PRP State Party, Mr. Abdullahi Maikasuwa, has been suspended for three months pending the decision of the National Secretariat. His suspension follows corruption and to the anti-party activities in which we found him.
"He repeatedly found himself harassing and extorting money from party members at the local government level and had political meetings with the PDP and APC in the State of Taraba.
"Maikasuwa violated the Party Constitution and the fundamental principles of our party by not acting in the basic interest of the people but in the self-interest.
"Maikasuwa's action in organizing a meeting with the gubernatorial candidates of the PDP and the APC, collecting a huge amount of not only violated the Constitution of our party, but also placed an embarrassing image on our party and the people.< /p>
"Members have by this decision unanimously appointed Engineer Idris Umar, the State Treasurer, as Acting Chairman of PRP Taraba State pending the decision of the national working committee regarding the suspension.
"Members also decided to hold an election for the next vacancy whose former occupants currently hold the national office of the party, are candidates for the 2023 elections or have decamped to other political parties The positions are, Assistant Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Assistant Publicity Secretary and Head of State,” the party said.

But Mr. Abdullahi Maikasuwa, while reacting to the development, denied allegations of corruption and anti-party activities against him.
Maikasuwa also said the acclaimed executive did not have the power to suspend him as party state chairman and urged the general public to ignore the information.
