Ebonyi LGA teachers have yet to receive their August salaries

Teachers in the Ebonyi Local Government Area of ​​Ebonyi State, under the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), have yet to receive their month-to-month salary. August.

Commissioner for Local Government and State Chieftaincy Affairs, Donatus Njoku, who responded to the development, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki on Wednesday that teachers will soon be paid.

Mr. Njoku said it was unfortunate that this category of teachers were not paid and pleaded with them to be patient.

"We are doing everything possible to ensure that everything that could have caused such a late payment is resolved.

"We are in contact with everyone involved in the payment and any issues will be resolved soon," he said.

He said August was a month of transition in the leadership of local government in the state, marking the end of the term of former presidents and the inauguration of new presidents on September 1.

The president of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in Ebonyi, Francis Egwu, said he was not happy to learn about development in local government in Ebonyi, while teachers from other areas from the local government had received their August salary.

"I contacted the past and current chairmen of the board and no compelling reason was given for the delay.

"However, they promised to expedite the resolution of payment issues.

“I will not rest until the matter is resolved, because the teachers in the council, among others, deserve their salaries,” he said.

NAN was unable to obtain comment from former council chairperson, Chinyere Nwogbaga, as she did not respond to calls and text messages sent to her phone.

The chairman of UBEB in the state, Hycinth Ikpor, also did not return his calls or respond to text messages sent to him.
