Nicholas Braun is a nightmarish date in the first images of "Cat Person"

Be careful who you flirt with. Our first look at "Cat Person" is finally here. The highly anticipated film, which stars "CODA"'s Emilia Jones and "Succession"'s Nicholas Braun — aka Cousin Greg — is based on the December 2017 New Yorker short story by writer Kristen Roupenian that instantly went viral. The film is directed by Susanna Fogel of “The Flight Attendant,” and production company Studiocanal describes it as a “genre thriller.” On December 7, the company released two first images of the film, along with information about its premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.

Studiocanal describes the plot of the film thus: "When Margot, a sophomore at university, has a date with the elder Robert, she discovers that IRL Robert is no match for the Robert who she flirts with via text 'Chat Person' is a sharply focused exploration of the gender divide, the quagmire of navigating modern dating and the dangerous projections we make in our minds about the person in the other end of our phones." In addition to "Cat Person", Roupenian also wrote the story that served as the basis for the horror film "Bodies Bodies Bodies".

"Cat Person" isn't Braun's first film to stem from a viral internet moment. In 2021 he appeared in "Zola", based on a true story told on Twitter. Braun is also gearing up for the fourth season of “Succession,” which is slated to return this spring.

Ahead, here's what we know about "Cat Person" so far.
