Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black suffered 'serious' head injury last month: 'I was missing for a while'

Dustin Lance Black, winner of the Oscar for best original screenplay for "Milk" in 2008, has revealed he suffered a "serious head injury" last month, claiming the injury is the reason he "has been missing for a while".

"A month ago I suffered a severe head injury that left me decommissioned,” Black wrote in a t. “Showing little improvement, my doctors ordered me to shut down my brain in hopes it would heal. »

Black announced the news Monday on Instagram, but did not mention any details about the cause of the head injury. The Instagram post features a series of photos of Black and her husband Tom Daley in Greece. “But this week my sweet, over-the-top husband took us to the Greek islands to shut me up. I can already feel this journey is a step in the right direction, and I finally feel safe to share a little again,” he continued in his post.

Black is the creator of FX's recently released limited series "" starring Andrew Garfield. Along with "Milk," he also wrote the screenplay for the 2011 film "J. Edgard."

“It's been a tough and scary time for a creative type who depends on what's has in his skull for work, care and love. And now I understand that the road back will be long,” he wrote.

HBO's "Mama's Boy," a documentary adapted from Black's 2019 memoir about his life, is set to open New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival NewFest on October 13. Black also wrote and produced the drama film "Rustin", directed by George C. Wolfe, expected in 2023.
