Thousands of ambulance workers and paramedics are on strike today after talks between the government and unions broke down.

Health Secretary Steve Barclay met with union representatives yesterday, but talks on wages were not discussed.

The unions are now warning that they will have no choice but to consider stepping up their strike action if the government continues to refuse to move on wages.

Paramedics from GMB, Unison and Unite will walk out in parts of England and Wales after more than 10,000 sustained strike actions.

GMB paramedics will also strike on December 28. People are asked to call 999 only in case of life danger.

Troops will cover ambulance drivers but may not speed or run red lights.

Volunteers from the Strike Map website have put together a searchable map of the ambulance stations affected by the strike. You can search for your location below.

Following the talks with Mr. Barclay, Unison General Secretary Christina McAnea said, "I hope they see some sense in this."

"People's lives are in danger every day because of the way ambulance services have been treated," she added.

Onay Kasab, Unite country manager, who attended the meeting, said it was "completely unnecessary due to the attitude of Steve Barclay who refused to discuss pay".

"The way he hopes to get some movement and resolve the dispute without discussing the key issue is mystifying," he added.

Rachel Harrison, GMB national secretary, has urged ministers to 'make us an offer' to avoid strikes. She said: 'Paramedics do their job because they care deeply about people. Government failures mean they can't."
