Seventy years later, his son, King Charles III, who loves anything with eggs and cheese, has opted for a "quiche coronation" to celebrate his coronation.

Unveiled by Buckingham Palace yesterday, the dish also appears to have been inspired by the monarch's love of the gardening and includes spinach, fava beans and tarragon.

The pie was made in close collaboration with the King and Queen Consort by Chef royal Mark Flanagan, at Buckingham Palace. Mr Flanagan has been in charge of royal meals since 2002. It is hoped that people will be inspired to make the quiche and serve it at 'big lunches' held in communities across the country during the May 6 coronation weekend . 8.

The quiche was chosen because it is considered a good "sharing" dish to take to a street party and can be served hot or cold. It is also suitable for a wide variety of dietary requirements and preferences and is considered "not too complicated to prepare or requiring expensive or hard to find ingredients".
