A 29-year-old Conservative Red Wall minister has announced she will not stand in the next election, becoming the fourth Conservative in a week to do so.

As the ruling party faces being wiped out the next time the country goes to the polls, Recovery Minister Dehenna Davison has announced she is stepping down.

In a statement, she said she had "nothing like a normal life for 20-somethings".

She joins a string of MPs who have announced that their terms in Parliament are over, including former Work and Pensions Secretary Chloe Smith, who was once one of the youngest MPs in Parliament.

The vice-chairman of the 1922 Thirties Committee, William Wragg, is also stepping down, as is Tory MP Gary Streeter. Veteran Conservative backbench Charles Walker also announced he would step down.

Tory MPs have until December 5 to announce whether they will run again, with party leaders fearing an exodus.
