Rishi Sunak struggles to name one utility that works after 12 years of Tory rule

The former chancellor, whose resignation sparked the crisis that brought down Boris Johnson, has struggled to set an example of a state that worked fine, instead of floundering: "The leave system."

Rishi Sunak tonight did not name a well-functioning public service, 12 years after the Tories came to power.

The former Chancellor, whose resignation helped spark the crisis that brought down Boris Johnson, struggled to set an example of a well-functioning public service, floundering: "Well, the system leave worked fine."

It comes as he and Liz Truss face off at a husting event for party worshipers in Norwich.

He told Julia Hartley-Brewer that Ms Truss would make a better prime minister than Boris Johnson - but his rival gave the opposite answer, backing the incumbent prime minister, who is leaving after a series of scandals.

Mr. Sunak, who seems doomed to miss out on his dream of becoming prime minister, has again attacked over his approach to the cost of living crisis.

He also seemed to suggest that serious crime was happening because of a rampant 'woke' culture within the police force - while Ms Truss claimed too much time was spent 'policing Twitter'.

When asked how he could claim to provide enough during the ongoing crisis, Sunak replied, "I didn't put a specific amount, because we don't know the numbers.

"We all grew up, we know that there is no Prime Minister who can make all that disappear, it is not credible."
