Rishi Sunak responds to Jeremy Clarkson misogyny controversy

Rishi Sunak weighed in on the row over Jeremy Clarkson's article where he said he 'hated' the Duchess of Sussex.

The former Top Gear featured said he was 'horrified to have done so much harm' with his column in The Sun, where he revealed he fantasized about people 'throwing feces' at Meghan Markle after watching the Netflix documentary of Sussex.

Mr. Clarkson, who was widely condemned for his comments, including by his own daughter, claimed "everyone my age thinks the same way" in his Friday post.

But today he was forced to back down and said he would "be more careful in the future".

The prime minister said 'language matters' when asked about the comments during a visit to Riga.

He told reporters: "I think for everyone in public life, language matters. You asked about racism. Now I saw some of the things that were said.< /p>

"I absolutely do not believe that Britain is a racist country. And I hope that as the first British Asian Prime Minister of our country, when I say it carries weight.

"You know, I'm really proud of our country, its culture, its resilience, its beauty.

"In fact, it is a huge privilege to defend Britain and indeed its institutions like the monarchy when I am on the world stage as I am here today."

Nicola Sturgeon, Carol Vorderman, Sir Philip Pullman and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan are among those who have already spoken.
