Russia's test of doomsday nuclear torpedo 'runs into technical problems'

Unveiled with great fanfare as a new doomsday weapon, a failed attempt to test the nuclear-powered torpedo called Poseidon was reportedly seen in the Arctic Sea

An attempt by the Russian Navy to test a fearsome nuclear-powered torpedo called Poseidon reportedly failed due to technical issues, it has been reported.

Unveiled with great fanfare in 2019, the Poseidon torpedo could have wiped out cities by causing a tsunami.

But the doomsday weapon, launched from the Belgorod, the world's longest submarine, appears to have experienced prolonged technical problems since it was commissioned last summer.

This comes as Vladimir Putin also appears to be having trouble with the new-age Satan-2 hypersonic nuclear missile that was supposed to be ready last June but is still not ready for testing.

And a test of the Poseidon in recent weeks had to be abandoned from Belgorod, according to a senior US official, it is reported.

The Belgorod was seen appearing to be preparing for a test in the Arctic Sea before returning to port - and it is believed to be technical issues, said .

“This can be seen as part of the bigger picture and recent military practice of Russia sending poorly trained and under-equipped troops to Ukraine,” a Western diplomat told CNN.< /p>

"The Russian military industry is going through difficult times, and we can also see that Western sanctions on high-tech military goods are having an effect and must continue."

Russia can now attempt to test the torpedo again, but they have a limited time as the water will soon be covered in ice with the onset of winter.
