Scholl's new collab with Denim Upcycler Re/Done

After successful updates in collaboration with fashion favorite DJ Honey Dijon and the Berlin GmbH based fashion brand, orthopedic shoemaker Scholl is launching a new partnership.

This week Scholl Shoes and Dr. Scholl's in the United States presented a limited edition capsule collection of the brand has set up with the Californian denim brand Re/Done. The capsule, featuring a new version of the Pescura sandal, will go on sale from Tuesday online and in stores and will retail for a hefty price tag of around $295. The regular Pescura usually sells for around $120.

Re/Done started by recycling classic Levi's, taking apart vintage jeans and putting them back together to resale and has since embarked on the manufacture of its own collections. They claim to have saved over 158,000 pairs of Levi's from being thrown away. The company has also worked with t-shirt manufacturer Hanes to offer a range of classic cotton tops.

"Collaborating with historic brands to recreate the classics is at the heart of what Re/Done does, so our partnership with Scholl was a no-brainer,” company CEO Sean Barron said in a statement.

The Scholl collaboration is just as concerned about sustainability as the other Re/Done projects. There are a few design changes, such as slightly higher heels, a different vintage-inspired finish for the sandal's buckle, and squarer toe shapes, but perhaps most notably the wooden base of the classic sandal is now made of beech wood certified by the Germany- Forest Stewardship Council, an international organization dedicated to sustainable forestry. And the leather in Re/Done X Scholl shoes comes from factories that have been audited by the UK-based organization the Leather Working Group, which promotes responsibly sourced and more environmentally friendly leather. The straps of the denim variant of the sandal come from recycling jeans from Re/Done.

Scholl CEO Tobias Klaiber told WWD that, as with the German sandal maker rival Birkenstock, the various collaborations were adding a lot of value to the brand. Revenue in Scholl's high-end segment has more than doubled recently, he added.

Each of the contributors added their unique take on the icon. Honey Dijon has brought oversized details and higher heels to their Scholls and a second capsule will be released later this year. Meanwhile, in keeping with their aesthetic, GmbH have brought a more techno twist to the sandals - with mesh uppers. The first of these was unveiled as a preview during the brand's spring 2023 presentation in Paris last October.
