Season A Letter to the Future

A new trailer was released this week on the official PlayStation blog, avoiding more information about the new game which will launch later this week as Season: A letter to the future. The game will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles and will officially launch on January 31, 2023.

Kevin Sullivan, creative director of game design company Scavengers Studio, took to the PlayStation Blog to find out more about what you can expect from the game, its characters, and its storyline. "Document, photograph and record life as you find it, while you still can."

"In Season: A letter to the future, you play as a young woman from a remote village who explores the world by bicycle for the first time, gathering memories before a cataclysm takes it all away. Your journey takes you to a strange valley where the seeds of the next season have been planted. You meet the last remaining inhabitants on the eve of their evacuation. In this final moment, you attempt to piece together the mysteries of the valley. Every conversation, every landscape, brings you closer to understanding: what is this season and why is it ending?"

"Most of the themes of 'Season: A Letter to the Future' are expressions of the anxieties of our times. We are moving towards a future that we know will be worse than the present. As we go as this becomes more certain, there is an associated thought that seems even darker: those awful years are also the good times. The story exists to give a kind of poetic expression (barely mastered poetic sense, the subconscious a la roue) to those thoughts and feelings, to defamiliarize them, tear them apart, and piece them together in an imaginary world. There is also another major motif in the story: the five senses."

"The game often draws attention to your senses. The screen goes black several times as the character closes their eyes to listen more closely for sounds. The taste, feel, or smell of things are often described as you explore. This theme has found powerful expression in many features only available on PlayStation 5. What's it like to ride a bike?
