Shots fired: FIFA and UEFA condemn attack on Turkish FA building

September 3 – FIFA and UEFA issued a joint statement condemning the shooting attack on the headquarters of the Turkish Football Association last Thursday afternoon.

At least seven shots were fired from outside the building, according to Turkish media, with the targets being the office of the Turkish FA president and a meeting room below.

The Turkish FA board was in a meeting when the attack happened. No one was injured in the shooting.

The shooters escaped in a waiting vehicle, but two suspects were later arrested. Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu reportedly described the shooters as "drunk". The motive for the attack is unclear.

In their joint statement, FIFA and UEFA said they "regret that there still exist persons capable of committing such crimes without any respect for human life or safety.

“FIFA and UEFA jointly condemn this violent act and express our full support for the TFF and its staff in these difficult times.

"Violence is a disease that cannot be tolerated in any form."
