Stacey Abrams says voter suppression rigs election results and crushes democracy

TMZ.com

Stacey Abrams says there is an ongoing threat to democracy in her state of Georgia, and several others, due to laws making it harder for people to vote, which she says is tearing the fabric even of American democracy.

The suffrage activist is running for governor in Peach State and she joined us on "TMZ Live" Friday to discuss the hurdles she says lawmakers are putting in place to voters there.

Stacey says Georgia's incumbent, Governor Brian Kemp, has publicly stated that his frustration with the way Georgians voted in the 2020 U.S. presidential and senatorial elections — going from red to blue — has pushed for new laws to be signed... which she says intentionally make it harder for people to vote.

There are growing nationwide concerns about the GOP pressing in full court to install secretaries of state who could potentially certify an election for a candidate who actually lost at the polls — but Stacey says that voter suppression is an equal, if not greater, concern.

The way she sees it... limiting ballots and people's access to vote is just another way to change election results - not as overt as rigging, but just as effective.

Stacey says Georgia is a great example of this dynamic at work...she says Georgia's Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger is credited with refusing to commit voter fraud in 2020, but she says he is a "very strong supporter of voter suppression."

It's an interesting conversation...but Stacey tells us there's one issue that's even more important to Georgia voters. That may be true for the whole country too.
