Results are based on scores in three key categories: quality of life, desirability and prosperity, with dozens of factors taken into account. These include education level, GDP per capita, poverty rate, number of quality restaurants, shops and nightclubs; walkability, number of mapped cycle paths, quality of parks and museums; and the number of recommendations on sites such as Tripadvisor, Google, Facebook and Instagram.
