The Crown: Netflix defends the show after criticism from Sir John Major

Netflix has defended The Crown as a "fictional drama" following criticism of its upcoming series.

Sir John Major told the Mail on Sunday that a scene which apparently depicts a plot to overthrow the fire Queen was "a barrel of malevolent nonsense". Charles, as he was then, in connection with the Queen's abdication.

Sir John's office told the newspaper that there was no never had such a discussion.

"Sir John has in no way cooperated with the Crown. Nor have they approached him for fact-checking in this or any other series," read a statement from his office.

"As you will know, discussions between the monarch and the Prime Minister are entirely private and - to Sir John - will always remain so. But none of the scenes you describe are accurate in any way. They are pure and simple fiction."
