Two Key Elements Of House Of The Dragon Season 1 Were Inspired By The Crown

Condal said of the time jumps and redesign inspiration for the Netflix series:

"['The Crown' is] I think it's a fair aspiration in terms of what I think is a high point in the art form. 'The Crown' does very well at taking well-known characters and then recasting them. They did it between seasons, we did it in the middle of the season.

"I think that was the most important thing is to do it mid-season with a brand new show and trust that the audience would bite into the characters and then stick with you while you trade them in. And so far, I think it's paid off."

It certainly didn't hurt the ratings, although it definitely made the whole thing more confusing. First of all, all of the characters have not been recast to where they usually are in “The Crown”. Also, as Condal said, this show does it between seasons, not episodes. For example, Claire Foy played the role of the late Queen Elizabeth in seasons 1 and 2, Olivia Colman playing the role in seasons 3 and 4. Imelda Staunton will take the next step with the upcoming seasons 5 and 6.

It just works better with more time with each actor and scenario. Foy was blessed with seasons in the role, spanning years and major events in our own world. It's a fictional story, of course, but we're talking about a real person here. There are photos of the Queen at every stage of her life, just like there are with the other featured characters. We have quite a bit of time to adapt to the change of seasons, and you never know who these new actors are playing.
