Watch: 'Americanized' Superb Basketball Coming-of-Age Short Film

Americanized Short Film

“I want to see that kind of commotion from you in the playoffs.” After winning awards at film festivals throughout 2021, this excellent short is finally here. on line. Americanized is a film by a filmmaker named Erica Eng and it is about a young woman who faces racism and bullying in her high school. It's one of those standout shorts that establishes a filmmaker and proves they're capable of doing something amazing, and I hope Eng gets a chance to make a feature film soon. Growing up in Oakland's hip-hop culture, Eng struggles with her Chinese-American identity. To her high school basketball team, she's just that girl sitting on the bench, but to Asian kids, she's "Americanized." As his second year of high school draws to a close, Eng tries to find a sense of belonging to both worlds that don't accept him. Starring Terry Hu as Eng, Amber Gaston, Shannon Dang and Helen Ong. This is a can't-miss short film; we strongly recommend that you take the time.
