We expect our MPs to lead by example. Don't make fun of voters who make the agonizing choice between warming up and eating while filling their faces.

Yet that's exactly what they're doing by sending 2.6 million of their taxpayer-subsidized unwanted dinners to landfill.

Today we reveal how Parliament has thrown away 1.23 million kilos of food scraps over the past six years, enough to fill 153 dumpsters.

If the MPs stacking the books had an ounce of decency, they would have rolled up their sleeves and taken one of these jumpers to Westminster Food Bank less than a mile away.

Yet with desperate parents worrying about how they will feed their children as they fearfully await the announcement of Friday's energy cap, MPs won't even return to Parliament to deliver a jab of hand.
