Ana de Armas receives the Young Hollywood Award from the Deauville Fest and pays tribute to the "cinephile grandfather" who gave her "big dreams"

Unrolling a banner world premiere of Andrew Dominik's "Blonde" at the Venice Film Festival, Ana de Armas Next up was the Deauville Film Festival in France, where she received the Hollywood Rising-Star Award on Friday, September 9 in the packed Palais des Congrès.

In the presence of Dominik and the producers of the film, the ceremony was followed by the French premiere of the film Netflix, in which de Armas delivers a captivating performance as Marilyn Monroe.

De Armas, who starred in "Knives Out", "No Time to Die" and " Gray Man," succeeds Dylan Penn, Sophie Turner, Elle Fanning and Shailene Woodley as recent recipients of the Hollywood Rising Star Award.

Dressed in a long white dress adorned with gold ornaments, the Cuban-born actress has said he "grew up with very little but had a movie-loving grandfather."

"I was about 10 years old when almost every night my grandfather and I sat on the sofa and watch any movie that's on TV. It didn't matter that I had to go to school early the next morning. When the news was over and the telenovela was over and after everyone had fallen asleep, we would sit in the dark living room, turn the volume down and with him by my side, I would enjoy every minute, learning and talking with him about all these places and people in worlds very different from mine,” said de Armas on stage.

"These movies made me dream big," she continued. De Armas, also paid tribute to his "very loving parents" who "supported these big dreams, [his] passion, [his] conviction and [his] ambition to pursue this career".

She said her parents stood up for her every step of the way, from the 13 years old and told them that she "I wanted to be an actress." At 16 she told them she wanted to study acting and at 18 she starred in her first film. She said they also supported him later when she told them she wanted to move to Spain to advance her career.

"Even though they didn't know much about the industry of the world outside of Cuba , they knew love wanted to support me and trust me and they went every step of the way,” de Armas said.

She ended her acceptance speech by saying that she was thinking of "anyone who [him ] gave an opportunity to be creative and speak [his] mind.”

The Deauville Festival ends tonight (September 10) with the French premiere of 'Olivia Wilde "Don't Worry Darling" after the award ceremony. The jury for this year's edition is chaired by the famous French director Arnaud Desplechin.
