Looking for back-to-back A-League wins on Friday morning, Wellington will travel to struggling Perth when this weekend's fixtures begin.

Starting with the hosts, with Perth reportedly finally managing to get a much-needed boost against Western United on December 10, it seems like it was nothing more than a minor positive note for the strugglers of the A-League. Making an immediate return to defeat last weekend as they were dogged by a toothless 1-0 away defeat at Macarthur, Ruben Zadkovich's men are at the heart of another nightmarish domestic campaign. Lifting the wooden spoon last season and sitting bottom of the A-League table again this time around, the Purples have taken just six points from their first eight top-flight encounters. With their protracted problems highlighted by a 4-0 battery at the hands of Melbourne City last month, Perth have yet to record a clean sheet since opening the new season. Hit by a 1-0 defeat in their last encounter against Wellington in April, Zadkovich's side could face a tough test.

As for the visitors, while Wellington may have struggled with his consistency since opening the 2022/23 campaign, Ufuk Talay's men were last seen playing make a catchy demonstration on national soil. Eventually en route to a 3-1 win over Adelaide, the Phoenix will be desperate to establish another marker here. Having lost just one of his last five A-League outings, the former Sydney manager should feel a real chance this weekend. Finding a way into the top half of the table, Wellington should also be boosted by a blistering record against the hosts on Friday. In fact, including that 1-0 win in their last showdown against Perth on April 13, Talay's side have collected 13 points in their last five meetings against the A-League wrestlers.
