8-year-old boy plunges to death 50ft from waterslide he didn't know had been dismantled

A civil engineer and a water park manager are facing manslaughter charges after an eight-year-old boy died after falling nearly 15 meters down a dismantled waterslide.

New reports reveal that the fence surrounding the slide being repaired has been removed on the orders of the manager.

The case happened in February of last year (2022), when little Davi Lucas de Miranda entered the slide at diRoma Acqua Park in Caldas Novas, Brazil.

Not realizing that it had been partially dismantled for maintenance, it plunged 13.8 meters before striking the wooden and metal structure of the ride.

He then rolled into a pool 70 centimeters (28 inches) deep.

He was saved alive but later died in hospital.

The carousel was originally surrounded by a fence at the foot of the stairs leading to the platform.

But investigations revealed that it was removed on the instructions of the manager, after new fencing was installed around the area surrounding the ride.

If the original fence had not been removed, little Davi would not have accessed the ride, the civilian police investigation into the case has concluded.

Only one of the ride's four tubes was plugged, investigators say, and the victim descended into one of the open tubes, which was missing part of its siding.

The civil police have appointed the civil engineer in charge of the repair works as Flavio Tomaz de Aquino Musse and the person in charge of the water park as Cristiano Vilela Reis.
