Boris Johnson continually dodges questions about resignation

Boris Johnson's job as Prime Minister entered its final throes tonight as a delegation of Cabinet Ministers traveled to Downing Street to tell him to step down.

Welsh Secretary Simon Hart and grim-faced Transport Secretary Grant Shapps went to tell the Prime Minister he had lost his party's trust after 36 MPs left government in 24 hours.

As the explosive rally formed, Tory MPs discussed changing the rules for votes of no confidence - to force the Prime Minister out as soon as next week if he squats in No 10.

Chief Whip Chris Heaton-Harris and new Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi – whom Mr Johnson only promoted last night – were reportedly among the group telling the Prime Minister time was up. Commerce Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan was also spotted in 10th place.

Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has reportedly lost faith in the Prime Minister, while earlier today Michael Gove, the Leveling Secretary, privately told Boris Johnson he must leave.

And in a blow to the Prime Minister, Home Secretary Priti Patel is said to be among ministers who have called on him to stand down.

Ms Patel reportedly spoke to the Prime Minister to convey the 'overwhelming view' of the parliamentary party.
