European nations learn their opponents in the play-offs for the final places for the 2023 Women's World Cup

September 9 - Europe's final contenders for a place in the 2023 Women's World Cup learned their fate in the qualifying draw.

In the draw, Ireland, Iceland and Switzerland were ranked in the top three runners-up in the qualifying group stage and earned a bye to Round 2 The other six finalists will play three one-way matches. -offs in round 1 on October 6.

The two highest ranked winners of the round 2 play-offs will qualify for the World Cup while the third winner will be sentenced to the inter-confederation play-offs.

Bosnia and Herzegovina and Wales are in their first play-off to a final tournament while Austria, Iceland, Ireland and Portugal are also eyeing World Cup debuts.

Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands, England, Denmark, Norway, Italy, Germany and France have already secured their presence in Australia and New Zealand next year, the first time the tournament will be played in a 32-team format.

At the 2019 World Cup, Europe provided seven of the eight quarter-finals, but the European champions Netherlands ultimately lost the final to the United States 2 -0. Europe last won the World Cup in 2007 when Germany beat Brazil 2-0 in the final.
