'Everyone won' in Cucurella's move from Brighton to Chelsea - Potter

Graham Potter has made it clear that Brighton and Hove Albion don't have to sell Marc Cucurella to Chelsea - although he believes 'everyone has won' with the deal.

Spanish international Cucurella has completed a move worth over £60m to join Thomas Tuchel's side as the Blues' latest arrival, following snaps of Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling, Carney Chukwuemeka and Gaga Slonina.

Cucurella's decision came after a dramatic few days, with multiple outlets reporting on Wednesday that a deal had been reached, but Brighton released a statement on social media denying that was the case.

Chelsea then upheld the decision on Friday, and Brighton manager Potter, speaking ahead of their Premier League opener against Manchester United, explained the club's thinking.

"We didn't want to sell it, and we didn't need to sell it," he told a press conference.

"At the same time, you understand that if a Champions League club comes with the resources and finances of the Champions League, and the player indicates that he has a desire to do so, that is very difficult for us.

"We have to make sure we get the right price. I think the right price was gotten, and that's another win-win situation.

"The player has a great opportunity, the selling club has a good commission and the buying club also has a good player.

“So win, win, win everywhere. Marc was a fantastic player for us, a great guy, I like him a lot. I wish him well and we are moving forward as a group.”
