'Funny In a Twisted Way': McDonald's removes 'offensive' ad placed next to crematorium

Talk about a bad sign!

A McDonald's in Cornwall, England is, well,... under fire for displaying a bus shelter advert for a McCrispy Chicken sandwich right next to a sign for the crematorium located in across the street.

"While I can see the fun side, it's tasteless and I'm sure some grieving family members won't like to see it when they visit Penmount for a loved one's funeral and cremation dear," an unnamed woman said of the ad's choice, per local outlet Cornwall Live.

The advert has attracted a lot of attention online as it is in a particularly busy area on the A309 road between Truro and Carland Cross.

A spokesperson for the fast-food chain told the outlet that the ad would be removed.

“We were not aware of the road sign near this bus stop,” the company said. "However, in light of the concerns raised by CornwallLive, we have requested that our advertising be removed."

Cornwall Live originally posted a photo of the ad on their Instagram where people started to wonder if the ad was offensive or if the coincidence was funny.

"My mother's funeral was in October last year, I think it's a sign of bad taste in fast food, maybe put there as a joke, it should be deleted immediately “, commented a woman.

"I think it's funny in a twisted way," another wrote. "People have [too much] free time these days."

The outlet then shared on Sunday that the ad had already been replaced with a sign offering a pass to a local art gallery.

"Right next to a sign for Penmount Crematorium, Truro, the old image of the McCrispy burger is now being compared to a new ad that says 'get your local pass,'" the outlet wrote on the social networks. "This is however an advertisement for Tate St Ives, not a regular pass to be cremated."

Perhaps it's best for everyone involved if the ad space remains empty for a little while.
