'Gran Turismo' barely beats 'Barbie' at the box office, for the 2nd time in a row

'Barbie' has been beaten for the second weekend in a row -- but not by much... on the contrary, her competitors are only just around the corner -- which says a lot about this juggernaut.

The box office numbers are in, and the last big movie hitting theaters this weekend was "Gran Turismo," the movie based on the video game, which tells the true story of how a gamer turned into a professional racing car. driver... all this by taking a controller.

The film - starring Archie Madekwe, David Harbor and Orlando Bloom - took the No. 1 spot, grossing just $17.3 million domestically... just ahead of "Barbie's" $17.1 million.

What does that tell you... people are still rushing to see Margot Robbie and co., even 5 weeks later. In other words, "Barbie" has a lot of staying power - and she continues to dominate.

Last week, WB's other film - superhero flick 'Blue Beetle' - was the first to dethrone 'Barbie' from the top spot... but, again, it made by a hair. "BB" only made around $25 million in its debut weekend, only $4-5 million more than "Barbie" in the same weekend.

So even then..."Barbie" still performed pretty well, and likely will for the next few weeks.
